It is dedicated to people living in social fragility and already assisted within our collaboration with the Sant'Egidio Community.
The first social veterinary clinic entirely run by us at LAV was inaugurated today in Rome.
It is a care centre for dogs and cats living in families with social fragilities, not always able to meet all the needs of their animals.
The beneficiaries of the services are exclusively the families involved in the support programme that LAV and the Community of Sant'Egidio have been carrying out for almost three years.
This morning the ribbon-cutting ceremony was held in the presence of Gianluca Felicetti, LAV President and Massimiliano Umani of the Community of Sant'Egidio, MPs, councillors, municipal councillors, and the Deputy Minister of Social Policies Maria Teresa Bellucci together with some beneficiaries of the clinic with their animals.
For many people, their animals are often their only family and source of comfort. LAV intervenes to help keep families together and protect their bonds, ensuring no one is left behind.
During the 2020 lockdown, the collaboration between LAV and Comunità di Sant'Egidio began, to provide a concrete response to the vital needs of so many families: feeding the animals, taking them out, and having them examined and treated when necessary.
The creation of the social veterinary clinic - which in its first year of activity aims to help at least 400 people in difficulty - has been made possible thanks to the generosity of our members, with a plant expenditure of 170 thousand euros, while the estimated cost for the first twelve months of activity will be between 80 and 100 thousand euros.
The transport of food, animals, and machinery was made possible thanks to the van made available for a year by Locauto Group , a leading company in the car and van rental sector, which will be by our side from 2019.
The clinic was realised based on the project by ALADESIGNLAB - arch. Alessandra Lucarelli, with Andrea Sale - ETERE graphic design.
